DESCRIPTION:PineNut Necklace Workshop (limited to 20 students)\n10am-2pm, Identity and Engagement Center\nThe California People have always used their natural surroundings\nfor food, tools, clothing and for every aspect of their daily life.\nLike all cultures, American Indian People like to adorn their clothing\nand themselves with hats, necklaces and other items. They made\ntheir adornments from items that were used as ‘barter’ or ‘money.’\nShells, beads, seeds and animal parts were the valuable items. For\nCalifornia People items would be Olivera shells, pinenuts,\ndentalium, cedar berries and doug fir branchlets.\nStudents will make a necklace from pinenuts, beads and the\ncenterpiece of the pinecone.\n
