Yuba vs Lassen (9/20/24)

We were back home against Lassen College last Friday.  It was another good match for us.  We had more time to work on our new lineup.  The scores and results may not indicate it but, our game against Lassen was the best we have played so far.  Players are learning their new positions and contributing in ways that wasn’t happening the first few weeks of the season.

Set 1 started pretty well with a Zoe Staub kill.  Plays went back and forth but Lassen had more experienced players and more options.  Yuba could only muster up one more kill this set (Jordyn Hoffman).

In set 2, Ava Toles and Evie Bird both got kills which brought the score to 3-4 Lassen but, Yuba’s communication started to break down causing errors so, a timeout was called at 3-9.  Yuba stayed quiet and Lassen took a huge lead to win set 2.  After the break, Yuba set their minds to do better in set 3…defense picked up and the 49ers started to play as a team…trust in each other was forming.  The sophomores got kills and digs while all the freshmen proved they could be digging machines as well.  We believe with more time and practice, the 49ers will gain confidence and more consistency.

Yes, we currently only have 6 players but, those 6 players have worked hard and have embraced their roles and are getting better every day…they are trusting the process.

Thank you to all of our fans who keep showing up and supporting our team…your cheers can be heard and have encouraged our players to do their best.  Yuba’s next game is home on Wednesday, October 2nd vs Napa Valley.  Every game now is conference.

Stat Leaders vs Lassen:
Jordyn Hoffman- 14 digs, 6 kills
Zoe Staub- 4 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace
Aaliyah Jones- 8 assists, 8 digs

Yuba vs College of the Siskiyous (9/18/24)

It was a very long trip to the College of the Siskiyous.  At the game, Yuba was working on their new lineup.  With very little time to work on the new lineup, it didn’t go well.  When the game started, the 49ers went head to head with Siskiyous for the majority of set 1.  Yuba called a timeout at 16-16.  After the timeout, Jordyn Hoffman got one of her crafty kills which gave the ball back to Yuba.  We took a two point lead to make it 18-16.  After a few miscues, Siskyous got the lead back to 20-18.  The next point was a long 30 seconds as bodies were flying and both teams doing what they could to keep plays alive with Yuba eventually winning the point to make it 20-19.  More miscues lead to Siskyous winning the first set.  In sets 2 and 3, Yuba could not overcome their physical and mental errors.  Yuba lost to Siskiyous 0-3 (25-19, 25-8, 25-10).  With major changes to the lineup and players playing different positions, Yuba was outplayed.  We knew we needed more time to practice all the changes but, we could also see that we had moments of good plays that showed our team chemistry was getting better.

Stat Leaders vs College of the Siskiyous:
Jordyn Hoffman- 6 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace
Evie Bird- 5 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill
Aaliyah Jones- 5 assists, 2 kills

Yuba vs Skyline, Napa Valley, and Shasta (9/13/24)

Unfortunately due to injuries Yuba could not field a team for the quad tournament held at Skyline College.  Yuba had to forfeit all 3 matches.

Yuba vs Cosumnes River (9/6/24)

Our first home game!  The results wasn’t what we wanted but we knew we were going against a tough opponent.  Cosumnes River was bigger than the 49ers in size and numbers.  Yuba’s numbers keep getting smaller as we have to deal with injuries.  With Team Captain Aaliyah Jones who is our setter currently out right now, Yuba has had to work with a couple of new setters the past few days.

First up was Julia Jessee.  Normally our Libero, Julia stepped in to help the team but, inconsistent passing didn’t help Julia as she is also dealing with a foot injury.  Next to set was Awynn Williams which put Julia back to being a Libero.  Awynn did a good job considering the very limited time she had to practice being a setter.

With two different line-ups and players playing out of position, it was difficult for the 49ers.  Yuba gave a valiant effort but with all the changes and inconsistencies, it was just too much for us to overcome.  Yuba lost the match 0-3 (3-25, 10-25, 15-25).

We want to thank all the spectators we had at the game!  Our crowd was very enthusiastic, loud, and supportive.  We appreciate you coming to watch us play.  Yuba will travel next Friday, September 13th to San Bruno to play 3 games- Skyline (12pm), Napa Valley (2pm), and Shasta (4pm).  Our next home game will be Friday, September 20th at 6pm vs Lassen College.

Stat Leaders vs Cosumnes River:
Jordyn Hoffman- 8 digs, 4 kills,1 assist
Awynn Williams- 4 assists, 3 kills, 1 dig, 1 block
Julia Jessee- 3 assists, 3 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill
Kiran Deol- 2 aces, 2 blocks, 1 kill, 1 dig

Yuba at Shasta Classic (8/30/24)

Yuba Volleyball played their first two matches this past Friday.  First up was Shasta College.  Being the first game of the year, the Niners started off nervous.  Even after several weeks of practice, the lack of playing 6v6 and dealing with several injuries could be seen on the court.  The girls however were determined to play well as they showed enthusiam and support for one another.

The first point for Yuba came off a kill from freshman Ava Toles from Yuba City.  Team Captain Aaliyah Jones from Lindhurst ran the court to set up her hitters.  She relied on sophomore Jordyn Hoffman to take most of the swings.

Yuba worked hard but Shasta was too much for Yuba to take on.  Yuba lost the match 0-3 (12-25, 9-25, 14-25).

Stat leaders vs Shasta:
Jordyn Hoffman- 11 kills, 2 digs
Ava Toles- 3 kills, 1 block
Aaliyah Jones- 13 assists, 4 digs
Julia Jessee- 6 digs, 1 assist
Kiran Deol- 3 digs, 1 ace

Yuba vs Diablo Valley

With one game under their belt, Yuba was more at ease to play their next game against Diablo Valley.  Awynn Williams a freshman from River Valley got Yuba off to a 3 point lead with her serving.  A few points later Julia Jessee a freshman from Yuba City came in and served tough and provided good defense causing Diablo Valley to call a timeout at 4-8.  Points were going pretty much back in forth for most of the set until Yuba called a timeout at 15-18.  The longest rally of the set with digs and blocks from both sides gave Diablo a 21-16 lead.  Tough serving from Diablo gave them a bigger lead until Ava Toles got the kill at 16-23.  Diablo’s big hitters finally put the set away two points later.

Set 2 was pretty close for the half the set.  Yuba’s defensive errors helped Diablo gain a 16-12 lead until a kill from Jordyn Hoffman into the deep right back corner gave Yuba a sideout.  Yuba’s small middle blockers Kiran Deol a freshman from River Valley had some good touch blocks strong serving and Evie Bird provided good defense in the back row.

Yuba started slow in set 3 and gave Diablo a 7 point lead before the first timeout at 3-10.  At 8-18, Yuba started to chip away Diablo’s 10 point lead.  Yuba picked up some digs and kills before Diablo called a timeout at 21-15.  Yuba kept fighting but ended losing 0-3 (17-25, 18-25, 17-25).

Overall it was a good starting experience for the young 49ers.  Our next match is 6:00pm on Friday, September 6th at home vs Cosumnes River College.

Stat Leaders vs Diablo Valley:
Jordyn Hoffman- 8 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces
Aaliyah Jones- 19 assists, 8 digs, 1 ace
Awynn Williams- 6 kills, 6 digs
Ava Toles- 6 kills
Evie Bird- 5 digs
