FIREFIGHTER 1&2 ACADEMY INFORMATION<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Fire Instructor Chris Armstrong and CTE Dean Alan Dixon<\/p><\/div>\n

Accredited by the California State Fire Marshall’s Office.\u00a0 The Firefighter 1 and 2 academy provides students with the basic skills and knowledge to work in the fire service.\u00a0 Following the California State Firefighter 1 and 2 curriculums, students will be provided training in basic concepts including fire department organization, firefighter safety, firefighter behavioral health and cancer awareness, communications, structural fire suppression operations, rescue operations, hazardous material awareness and operations, wildland fire suppression operations, equipment operation and maintenance, fire and life safety initiatives. Includes daily physical fitness training.<\/span> Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will receive IFSAC\/ProBoard certification as both a Firefighter 1 and a Firefighter 2.<\/div>\n

FIRTC 61 Fall 2026 (Firefighter 1 and 2 without EMT) Academy Schedule:
\nAugust 5, 2026 to November 19, 2026, 0630-1700 Monday to Friday
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

FALL 2026 FIREFIGHTER 1 & 2 ACADEMY APPLICATION PROCESS & TIMELINE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 1. <\/span>Complete fire academy application and submit via email or in-person no later than 5pm on Friday, April 10, 2026.\u00a0 Ensure you receive a confirmation email that your application was received.\u00a0 Incomplete applications will not be accepted.\u00a0 Please note: applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.<\/p>\n

Step 2.<\/span> Apply to Yuba College as a new student if not already registered. See registration link for new students here: Apply Now – Yuba College (yccd.edu)<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Priority Registration: Priority Registration – Yuba College (yccd.edu)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3. <\/span>Review program costs and fees and apply for financial aid if needed, Financial Aid – Yuba College (yccd.edu)<\/a> Connect with WIOA:<\/span> Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) | Yuba College (yccd.edu)<\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 4. <\/span>Await confirmation of acceptance into the fire academy. Notification of acceptance to the academy will be sent via email by Friday, April 17, 2026, and we will request your confirmation. If you do not confirm, your seat will be given to the next applicant.\u00a0 Acceptance letter will provide information regarding items to purchase and tasks to complete.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0If confirmed into the Fall 2026 academy, complete the remaining steps<\/span><\/strong><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 5. <\/span>Complete medical exam, due by July 6, 2026, Fire Medical Clearance Release Form<\/a> (your clearance must be dated within 6 months of academy start)<\/p>\n

Step 6. <\/span>Purchase uniforms, Personal Protective equipment, PT clothing, and books, due by July 6, 2026<\/p>\n

Step 7. Enroll and attend FIRTC 60, the academy prerequisite, scheduled July 24 – 26, 2026.\u00a0 If you will be challenging the prerequisite, please reach out to the public safety office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Step 7. <\/span>Attend a recommended orientation meeting via Zoom a month prior and mandatory in-person orientation the weekend before the academy begins.<\/p>\n

Step 8. <\/span>Prepare for academy start on August 5, 2026<\/p>\n

FIREFIGHTER 1 & 2 PROGRAM COSTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Material and Uniform Costs<\/span><\/p>\n

Some personal protective equipment will be provided by the Academy, with the exception of footwear, hoods, and gloves (for health reasons). Students must also provide their own uniforms. Specifications and vendors for these items will be provided upon being accepted for enrollment in the Academy.<\/p>\n

Financial Aid<\/span><\/p>\n

Some students may be eligible to receive financial aid. Both Board of Governor\u2019s Fee Waivers and Federal Financial Assistance may be viable options for students seeking assistance. Books<\/span><\/p>\n

Firefighter Academy books will be available for purchase online and at the Yuba College Bookstore. Details will be made available in the Acceptance Letter. Once accepted and enrolled in the course, go to the course link in your Yuba College login and the books assigned to the academy will be linked to your course registration. Confined Space Awareness (CSRA), Firefighter Survival (FFS), Fire Control 3 (FC 3), Fire Control 4A, Fire Control 4B, Common Passenger Vehicle Technician, State Fire Fighter 1 Testing, Fire Fighter 2 Testing, Haz-Mat FRA & FRO, Wildland Fire Fighter Safety and Survival, S-130 Fire Fighter Training, S-131 Fire Fighter Type 1. S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, L-180 Human Resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fees<\/span><\/p>\n

Enrollment fees, as set by the California State Legislature, are $46 per unit and are subject to change. Students will be responsible for the difference in enrollment fees if such changes are enacted by the Legislature. The total cost for the Firefighter 1 and 2 academy is approximately $3,500 – $4,500 dollars.<\/p>\n
