{"id":725,"date":"2019-05-29T16:23:47","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T16:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yc.yccd.edu\/vettech\/?page_id=725"},"modified":"2025-12-18T23:48:38","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T23:48:38","slug":"requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/yc.yccd.edu\/vettech\/home-page\/admissions\/requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>General:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Age 18 years or older<\/li>\n<li>Physically and mentally capable of safely performing the role of a Registered Veterinary Technician<\/li>\n<li>Must possess the physical stamina to lift heavy animals and remain standing for extended periods of time.<\/li>\n<li>It is strongly recommended that all students have received a tetanus vaccination within seven years and be TB tested negative no more than 6 months prior to starting the program<\/li>\n<li>Be fully vaccinated against Rabies by the start of the Program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Soft Skills:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Good interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li>Oral and written communication<\/li>\n<li>Problem solving<\/li>\n<li>Critical thinking<\/li>\n<li>Make quick decisions in difficult or unpleasant situations<\/li>\n<li>Work well as a team member<\/li>\n<li>Organization<\/li>\n<li>Detail oriented<\/li>\n<li>Dexterity in both hands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Additional Requirements:<\/h3>\n<p>The Vet Tech student must be able to work in an area with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Various odors<\/li>\n<li>Inhalation anesthesia<\/li>\n<li>Zoonotic diseases<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning chemicals<\/li>\n<li>Low-level radiation<\/li>\n<li>Sick animals<\/li>\n<li>Distraught clients<\/li>\n<li>Potentially dangerous biological agents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Other Required Courses:<\/h3>\n<p>Additional coursework is required to satisfy the General Education requirements for the Associate in Science degree. Completion of the Vet Tech Program satisfies Graduation Requirement 4 (Health). Most Vet Tech courses have prerequisites that must be completed prior to proceeding to subsequent courses.
