FIELD TRAINING OFFICER AJ 60
This course is designed to train newly appointed Field Training Officers and is open to agency-sponsored students only. The course includes training on goals, objectives, expectations, functions, and roles of an FTO. This course also focuses on leadership, ethics, teaching, and training skills development, competency in writing evaluations, intervention, remediation, test and scenario development, legal and liability issues, mental health crisis intervention, driver safety, and case studies.

This course fulfills the POST training update requirements for current Field Training Officers (FTO). It focuses on the most current training in the core functions of an FTO, which are to teach, mentor, evaluate and document. The instructional techniques used focus on the modern science of learning and specific techniques used to build the student’s teaching skills. Students are given the opportunity to work on observation reports and training plans while gaining an understanding of a standardized evaluation process.
