Julia has been with the Yuba College Women’s Volleyball program in different roles since 1986. She played under former head coach Thea Post as a setter and outside hitter. She has remained with the program and has worked her way up the ladder starting as an assistant coach in 1988. She then became the 1st assistant in 1997 taking on more responsibilities. Now many years later, she is the head coach for Yuba College.

As a player, Julia received Bay Valley All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for both her volleyball seasons. She also played two seasons of softball for Yuba College under head coach Chris Dokos earning BVC Honorable Mention honors her first year and was selected a BVC All-Conference player her second year as an outfielder.

Julia started coaching club volleyball in 1997 for the Yuba-Sutter Seminoles. In late 1997, she took over as the club director for the Seminoles and changed the club name to North Valley Jrs VBC. She has coached numerous teams for North Valley in all age groups ranging from 14u-18u; sometimes coaching two teams in one season. Over the years, her teams have won many tournaments in the Power and Area Leagues of the NCVA.

Julia graduated from Wheatland High School where she played four seasons of both volleyball and basketball and three seasons of softball. Julia makes her home in Marysville and teaches various classes part-time in the Kinesiology (Physical Education) Department at Yuba College. She enjoys all sports, doing creative work on her computer, and photography. She is a huge Atlanta Braves fan…Go Braves!

Brian Coleman

Brian was born in Yuba City and lived in Arkansas and Kansas before moving back to the area in 1996. He received his AA in Yuba College in 1999 and a BA in Physical Education from Chico State in 2004. He has taught Physical Education at all levels (K-12) for 13 years; with the last 5 in the Yuba City Unified School District.

Brian started his volleyball coaching career at River Valley High School as an assistant varsity coach. He then moved across the river to coach at Marysville High School where he was the head JV coach for one year before becoming the head varsity coach. In 2014, Brian traded in his high school coaching career to come coach at Yuba College. Brian has also been either a head or assistant coach for the North Valley Jrs VBC since 2006; coaching all age groups.

Brian currently lives in Yuba City with his fiancé Araceli and her two boys. He enjoys all sports, movies, music, and reading in his spare time. Brian is a Bay Area teams fan (49ers/Giants/Warriors).

Joe’s experience is in weightlifting. In 1976, he was the State Powerlifting Champion in the 148 lb class. He placed sixth at the Collegiate National Powerlifting Championships in the 148 lb class in 1978 for Chico State. In 1979, he placed second at the Western United States Powerlifting Champtionships in the 148 lb class. In 1994, Joe was the Nevada State Powerlifting Champion in the 165 lb class.

Joe graduated from Marysville High School and then attended Yuba College. He transferred to Chico State and graduated with a BA in Physical Education. He later earned his Masters in Exercise Physiology. Joe currently works for Fremont-Rideout Health Group as a Physical Therapist. Joe has been with Yuba College since 1994 where he teaches various classes part-time in the Kinesiology (Physical Education) Department.

Joe is married to Annie and they make their home in Yuba City. He has a son named Daniel who is an avid soccer player. In his free time, Joe enjoys weightlifting, riding his Goldwing motorcycle, and sitting in his back yard by the pool. Along with Brian, Joe is a Bay Area teams fan (49ers/Giants/Warriors).
