Dear Potential Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Vice President for Student Services (VPSS) position at Yuba College. Our college, located in a beautiful rural setting, is a mid-sized institution that serves as a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). We take pride in our robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, which equip our students with the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce.

At Yuba College, our mission is to provide equitable student learning and success. We offer degree and certificate programs leading to career and transfer opportunities for our diverse communities. This commitment drives our focus on being a student-centered institution, where every decision we make reflects the needs and aspirations of our diverse student population.

Our recent accomplishments demonstrate the exciting momentum at Yuba College:

  • Enrollment Growth: Our college has experienced remarkable enrollment recovery post-COVID and is focused on strategic growth for the future.
  • Expanded Partnership with Chico State: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) now guarantees admission for students meeting certain qualifications, creating a seamless transfer pathway.
  • Student Success Teams: With the addition of four new Student Success Specialists, we are focused on furthering our Guided Pathways work and delivering personalized support for students, ensuring their journey at Yuba College is successful.
  • Enhanced Leadership in Student Services: Creating two new Student Services Dean positions reinforces our dedication to providing strong, innovative leadership in this area.

We seek a visionary leader with experience in Student Services who is ready to advocate for the student-serving functions central to Yuba College. The ideal candidate will:

  • Be honest, transparent, and demonstrate a deep understanding of community colleges’ history, mission, and organizational leadership.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills, including team-building, effective advocacy, and a visible presence on campus and in the community.
  • Be a problem-solver with the ability to address both day-to-day challenges and crises with poise and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate high emotional intelligence, excellent listening skills, objectivity, and a steadfast commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Value organization, approachability, and proactive engagement with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

We envision our next VPSS helping us be bold and forward-thinking in our strategies to support students and our rural community. A deep understanding of rural areas, including the challenges of poverty and educational attainment, paired with an appreciation for the small-town culture that defines Yuba College, will be vital to success in this role.

As we continue to implement Guided Pathways fully, we aim to position Yuba College as a cornerstone of success for our large and diverse geographic area, serving as a catalyst for community development and transformation.

If you are a leader who shares our passion for student success and community impact, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey. We look forward to welcoming a leader who will inspire innovation, foster collaboration, and help shape the future of Yuba College.
