Faculty Curriculum Responsibilities

Faculty are responsible for initiating curriculum development and revision. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date curriculum helps the College meet compliance requirements and supports student success.

When curriculum responsibilities are not completed on schedule, the College may receive audit findings. Audit findings can result in financial penalties and retroactive apportionment loss, which can reduce resources available to support students.

Specific curriculum responsibilities of faculty

  • Learn Yuba College curriculum policy and approval timelines in order to create and launch accurate, well-integrated Course Outlines of Record (CORs).
  • After curriculum is launched, track it through the approval process. Respond to requested changes and relaunch revised curriculum in a timely manner.
  • Write curriculum as needed. This includes:
    • Staying current with evidence-based best practices in your discipline(s).
    • Staying current with workforce and industry alignment requirements, when applicable.
    • Networking and collaborating with colleagues and administrators.
    • Designing curriculum with appropriate rigor that supports student success.
  • Update all Course Outlines of Record every five years (refer to the out-of-compliance list for details).
  • Ensure eLumen reflects all curriculum within your discipline(s), including CORs not currently under review.
  • Deactivate courses that have not been offered in more than three years (refer to the sunset list for details).
  • Deactivate CORs that no longer fit into the program.
  • Deactivate degrees and certificates that have not been awarded in more than five years.
  • Ensure the Yuba College Catalog accurately reflects what the department or program is offering. Course, degree, and certificate information in the catalog must match what is in eLumen. When a COR is updated with major revisions, related degrees, certificates, and CORs (for example, those connected through cross-listing, prerequisites, or co-requisites) should be updated at the same time and approved by the state to reflect those revisions.
  • In collaboration with the division dean and other department members, track curriculum review cycle progress for each degree, certificate, and Course Outline of Record in a shared file.
