Why Veterinary Technology is a great career option:

Veterinary Technology is a wonderful career field to pursue because it allows for one to contribute to the well-being of both humans and animals. It is a scientific career, to be sure, however it is one that requires tremendous compassion for all species. Yes, even humans!

Advice:

Take as many science classes as you can. Pursue a formal education and do not allow yourself to settle for the first job in veterinary medicine that comes along. Veterinary medicine is a much wider field than what most people realize. While working in a small animal clinic is a wonderful place to start a career, with the right education, jobs in research, teaching, public health, shelter medicine, food safety, wildlife management (and more!) are within reach. It is truly a unique and wonderful field!

Hobbies and outside interests:

My outside interests primarily center around yoga although I love reading and traveling as well.

Experience:

I have worked as an RVT in veterinary practice in both small and large animal hospitals in addition to academia. I have also consulted on a variety of veterinary and public health projects overseas for several NGOs.

Awarded the Veterinary Technology Mentor of the Year by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America in 2008

Awarded the Technician of the Year award by the California Veterinary Medical Association in 2013
