Thank you for your interest in the Vice President for Instruction (VPI) position at Yuba College. Our college, located in a beautiful rural setting, is a mid-sized institution that serves as a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Our recent accomplishments demonstrate the exciting momentum at Yuba College:

  • Enrollment Growth: Our college has experienced remarkable enrollment recovery post-COVID and is now focused on strategic growth for the future in persistence, retention and completion.
  • Innovator in Dual Enrollment: Our work with K-12 agencies in the community we serve has led to more than 2,000 high school students attending Yuba College each semester in a series of innovative partnerships. We have a strong dual enrollment leadership team including both a Director of Dual Enrollment and a Faculty Coordinator.
  • Student Success Teams: With the addition of four new Student Success Specialists, we are focused on furthering our Guided Pathways work and delivering personalized support for students, ensuring their journey at Yuba College is successful. We look forward to launching these teams this Fall and more deeply engaging with data coaches to drive equitable student success.
  • Strong Faculty Leadership in OER/ZTC: The College has created momentum and success through the leadership of a faculty group that is championing OER/ZTC materials. The group has been successful in accessing significant funding to support these transitions and the significant workload associated with it.

We are seeking a visionary leader with experience in Instruction that’s focused on continual improvement. The ideal candidate will:

  • The ability to clearly and transparently communicate with faculty, students, and staff ensuring that instructional priorities, changes, and initiatives are effectively conveyed across different stakeholders. A leader who is approachable and responsive, fostering open dialogue and active listening.
  • A deep understanding of curriculum development, review, and innovation to meet student and workforce needs. Ensuring that programs are aligned with accreditation standards, industry trends, and student career pathways. A commitment to equitable and inclusive curriculum design, supporting diverse learners.
  • A strong focus on removing barriers to student success by improving academic support services. Prioritizing student-centered policies and instructional strategies that lead to retention, completion, and career readiness. Advocating for equity-driven initiatives that support all students, particularly marginalized populations.
  • A visionary and strategic leader who can inspire and motivate faculty and staff. Someone who can make data-informed decisions while balancing institutional priorities with student needs. The ability to lead with empathy, integrity, and accountability in a dynamic higher education environment.
  • A leader who fosters strong partnerships with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. Promoting a culture of shared governance where faculty input is valued in decision-making. Strengthening relationships with industry partners to ensure educational programs align with workforce demands.

We envision our next VPI helping us be bold and forward-thinking in our strategies to support students and our rural community through emerging and developing topics like AI and OER/ZTC. A deep understanding of rural areas, including the challenges of poverty and educational attainment, paired with an appreciation for the small-town culture that defines Yuba College, will be vital to success in this role.
