Current Position:
Adjunct Office Administration Faculty for Yuba College and Tutor for the Writing Language Development Center for Yuba College
What were you doing before coming to Yuba College?
I was unemployed and looking for a job that paid more than minimum wage. I figured out that in order to do that, I needed an education. I am the first person in my family to earn a degree which has since inspired three other members of my family to go back to school.
What lead you to where you are today?
Three of my professors encouraged me to continue in this field because I was always tutoring the other students in class. Kyra Mello was the one to encouraged me to start tutoring in the Writing Language Development center and continue on to become a teacher. I applied for tutoring and didn’t think I would selected, but once I was it became addictive to help others. I found tutoring to be the kind of challenge I loved and knew I had to go on.
What faculty member helped you in pursuing your passion/vision?
Kyra Mello, Professor Lee and Christopher Meyers. All three of them kept pushing me to go on.
What advice do you have for current or prospective students?
Don’t give up. Failing is an option…it just teaches you to approach something in a different way.
I didn’t plan on getting an Associates degree when I first started out. It was brought to my attention that I could improve my life and the company I work for through obtaining my Associate Degree. Once I realized that I earned three and have never regretted it. It’s important to start somewhere. My advice is start with a class and see where it takes you!
