Yuba College Names Dr. King Xiong as Dean of Student Development

(August 1, 2024) Marysville, Calif. – Yuba College (YC) recently appointed Dr. King Xiong as the new Dean of Student Development. Xiong joins YC with a decade of extensive experience in student services and student affairs from his work within the California State University system and various community colleges. In his role, he will support academic advising, transfer services and a variety of student success initiatives. Raised in the Yuba-Sutter region, Xiong feels honored to have the opportunity to enhance student success at YC.
“I am thrilled to come back home and make a positive impact on students within our community,” he said. “My goal is to support our staff and faculty members to provide equitable access and support services to our students.” Vice President of Student Services Dr. Tonia Teresh is pleased to have Xiong on board.
“He brings significant experience working with college students in counseling and support programs, including programs that serve educationally and economically disadvantaged students,” she said, adding, “I’m excited to work with him to build on the good work already happening at the college, while strengthening our support services.”
As Director of the Educational Opportunity Program at CSU Maritime, Xiong provided direct academic advising to first-generation, low-income students. At Sierra College, he managed a student center and peer mentorship program within an equity-based pathways initiative, offering case management support for disproportionately impacted students. He recognizes the need for students to receive ongoing support and is committed to partnering with staff to ensure their needs are met.
“To achieve a higher level of student success, it’s important that students feel heard, valued, and supported,” Xiong explained. “I’d like to include multiple key perspectives, such as counseling, instructional faculty, staff, management and students, to make sure we remove barriers for students in receiving the necessary support for beginning and continuing their education.” Xiong is enthusiastic about working with the dedicated team at YC.
“Student development revolves around helping students grow and succeed as they progress through their education. I’m proud to join Yuba College’s well-rounded team who want to see students succeed in their educational journey.”
