(April 15, 2024) Marysville, Calif. – Yuba College proudly announces the awarding of
tenure to Cindi Sargent, who serves as instructional design resource faculty, recognizing
her contributions to education and dedication to student success.
The Yuba Community College District Board of Trustees officially voted to award tenure to
Sargent at their March meeting. She will be recognized in a tenure reception with the
Trustees and College Leadership on April 11 at the April YCCD Board meeting.
Sargent joined the college in 2020, just as most faculty began shifting their courses to an
online format due to the global pandemic. Her role involves working closely with faculty
members to design and develop courses that are accessible, engaging and effective for
distance education students.
Dr. Meridith Selden, president of the Yuba College Academic Senate, shared words of
praise for Sargent, highlighting her positive spirit and impact on the campus community.
“She had to come in the middle of (the pandemic) and carve out a way to interact with
faculty when they were not as available on campus as they had previously been,” she
recalled. “I’m really impressed that she was able to hit the ground running during that time
and make a big, positive impact. It was a lot and it was hard, but she’s done it really well.”
Sargent shared that she was happy to join Yuba College at that time.
“The hard work of our faculty for students in and out of the classroom motivates me to be
a person they can rely on and trust. I was glad to be able to come on board to provide
training and resources, offer one-on-one support, and help the Distance Education
Committee with some of their important work.”
A former high school teacher, Sargent appreciates being able to combine her knowledge
as an educator with her technological skillset.
“I am motivated by knowing that the flexibility online courses provide makes some
students’ educational goals possible,” she said. “I would not have been able to complete a
Master’s degree program while raising two young children and keeping a full-time job if not
for the ability to do the program primarily online. I know when I support faculty in
developing a quality online course I’m also helping our students.
Yuba College President Dr. Tawny Dotson expressed gratitude for Sargent’s commitment
to the college’s mission of “providing equitable student learning and success.”
“Tenure is a privilege that comes with hard work and commitment to teaching. I am thrilled
to see Cindi’s achievements recognized with her tenure award,” Dotson said. “Her passion
for education and her willingness to support her colleagues have made her an invaluable
asset to our college community. Her addition to our faculty came at a critical time and her
talent and skills have helped us to support faculty in their ability to teach in person, online
and in hybrid models.”
