Yuba College hosts annual Night of Scholars event, celebrating 150 scholarship recipients and donors
(October 18, 2024) Marysville, Calif. – Yuba College held its annual Night of Scholars event, celebrating more than nearly 150 student scholarship recipients who collectively received more than $131,000, and the donors who made the evening possible.
Hosted in partnership with Yuba College leadership and the Yuba Community College District (YCCD) Foundation, the Night of Scholars was generously sponsored by the Marysville Kiwanis Club, the CRBR Property Damage Service, Papa’s Old Stuff and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 228 Union. These organizations play a crucial role in enabling student success, both through event sponsorship and ongoing support.
“These scholarships are directly impacting students’ academic journeys, making them affordable and accessible. The role of donor support in fostering student success cannot be understated,” said YCCD Foundation Director Thomas “Jay” Lowden. “We are so proud of these students for their hard work and dedication and thank our donors for helping these students see their dreams come true.”
Some of the largest scholarships awarded include:
- OSHER Scholarship: $33,800 for 26 recipients.
- Harold R. Sawtell Scholarship: $53,000 for 53 recipients.
- Paco Arce Memorial Scholarship: $12,000 for 12 recipients.
Yuba College student Garrett Vest received $4,000 in awards from various scholarships including the Yuba College Administration of Justice Scholarship, the Harold R. Sawtell Scholarship and the Paco Arce Memorial Scholarship. Yuba College student Cindy Yang received $3,050 from the Reita Bell-Huckins Women’s Scholarship, OSHER Scholarship (Marysville Campus), Paco Arce Memorial Scholarship and the Sanchez Family Sato Smith Scholarship.
