Yuba College Academic Senate Priorities

#1 Assert the faculty voice and leadership at the appropriate time in all 10+1 and shared governance issues.

Possible activities include:

  • Establishing annual 10+1 training for the college community (including faculty, administration, staff, students, and community members)
  • Encouraging appropriate levels of faculty involvement in budget planning and committees.
  • Strengthening connections among senate subcommittees.
  • Hosting a panel about different faculty leadership positions.
  • Examining (and potentially revising) the YCAS bylaws.
  • Reexamine process and priorities for faculty hiring, faculty evaluation, and curriculum with respect to dual enrollment

 

#2 Work to promote a healthy sense of community and faculty morale.

Possible activities include:

  • Working to improve faculty morale.
  • Encouraging a broader spectrum of faculty involvement.
  • Creating opportunities for faculty interaction and support.

 

#3 Support and implement increased student involvement and collaboration in the college governance process.

Possible activities include:

  • Advocating for student participation across the campus.
  • Working with ASYC to provide opportunities for increased student engagement.
  • Providing financial support for club travel (when possible).
  • Attending ASYC meetings and events
  • Mentoring student leaders
  • Creating opportunities to  discuss college policies, learning, new technologies, and classroom conditions with students.
  • Devising shared solutions with students to create a better college experience.  

 

#4 Encourage faculty-student interaction outside the classroom

Possible activities include:

  • Establishing a “College Conversation Corner” in the cafeteria at the Marysville Campus. This area would include cushioned furniture where faculty and students could intermingle. First stage would identify 11:30am-1:00pm Mondays-Thursdays as “College Conversation Corner.” Subsequent times as interest grows. Could identify specific early morning hours.
