Common Course Numbering is new for Fall 2025 – What You Need to Know
To make transferring and course selection easier for students, California Community Colleges are implementing the Common Course Numbering (CCN) system. This initiative standardizes course numbers across all community colleges in the state, so equivalent courses will have the same number, regardless of where they are taken
How This Affects You
-
If you’ve already completed a course before the change, you do not need to retake the updated version.
-
If you have a course in your education plan that is affected by CCN, you’ll need to update it with the new course number when registering for Fall 2025 and beyond.
-
This change will help ensure your courses transfer more smoothly within California’s community college system and to four-year universities.
Next Steps
-
Review your education plan in Self-Service to check if any of your planned courses are changing.
-
When registering for Fall 2026, look for the new course numbers in the schedule.
-
Connect with a counselor if you have any questions about how this impacts your academic path.
