Why I am a History Major
History is life
All I have ever wanted to be was a History major. Ever since I took an interest in the seventh grade, I have been infatuated with learning anything and everything I can about this subject.
History is not about memorizing facts and knowing everything on a timeline; it’s about analyzing people and societies, and interpreting the decisions that were made so that we can understand the big events of our time. We must learn from the past and understand the world so we can live in it properly!
By teaching us to analyze the social, political, and economic threads of the past, the study of History gives us the skills to analyze those threads in the present. If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always had.
As far as a career, well I could be a teacher, a writer or a researcher or even go into management. But for me, the ultimate goal is to become an Archivist. Some historians, known as archivists, collect historical documents and other objects for museums, special libraries, historical societies, and other organizations. Archivists prepare exhibits and organize historical materials for people who do historical research. Archivists work in places called archives where records, historic documents, and other materials are collected and preserved.
In short, the study of the past helps lead to greater personal insight and comprehension of each person’s place in the grand sweep of the human story.
History is life.

We must know where we came from to know where we are going
Hello all! My name is Alvaro Machuca. I am 25 years old and was born in Fresno, Ca. I have been living in the Yuba County area ever since I was 9 years old at which point my father decided to move up here due to better pay in his field of work. I am a Lindhurst High School graduate, class of 2004. After my high school years I decided to join the military in which I served until 2008. Being a part of the military taught me to appreciate the rich history our armed forces has accomplished in our short time as a nation.
Learning about our militaries history was not the deciding factor in becoming a history major. Ever since I was in high school I always knew that if and when I ever left the military I would continue to pursue my studies in history. From the times since I was in middle school and learning about the Egyptian civilization to the time the that I was a senior in high school and learning about U.S. History, I always found history to be amusing. It was also one of the only subjects in which I was actually passing through out the years with ease. Great teachers also played a big role in my decision to becoming a history major and on a personal level I feel we must know where we came from to know where we are going. My main preference of study would be U.S. History and my second favorite would be Egyptian Civilization.
