STEM Week activities at Yuba College excite, delight, and ignite students’ imaginations
(November 8, 2024) Marysville, Calif. – Yuba College recognized National Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Day with a week full of activities, highlighting Yuba College’s
commitment to promoting academic achievement and inspiring student success from November 4 – 8, 2024.
Open to the community, the events allowed everyone to experience hands-on STEM activities and demonstrations at the college’s Marysville campus.
“National STEM Day is November 8, but we really wanted to maximize participation and impact, so this year we’ve turned it into a week-long celebration,” said Yuba College Dean of STEM and Social Sciences Dr. Michael Bagley.
The College hosted various activities during the week to recognize STEM Day including demonstrations with a potato cannon, a trebuchet, an egg drop competition, an elephant toothpaste experiment and more. The college’s student clubs and faculty are joining forces to showcase STEM concepts in fun and engaging ways, including collaborations with local schools for STEM outreach.
“Our students and faculty have taken National STEM Day to new heights by extending it into a week filled with hands-on activities and inspiring talks,” Bagley said. “This week is all
about sparking interest in STEM, not only among our students but also in our community, showing that STEM can open doors to incredible careers and opportunities.”
Some of the student clubs involved include Yuba College’s Engineering Club, the Green Futures Club and the Science Club, to name just a few. Yuba College also collaborated with the MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program and TRIO STEM programs, which provided resources, funding and food for events.
Alumni speakers, including Brian Edwards, shared their professional STEM journeys and insights with students, and gave presentations during the event. Yuba College will share updates and additional event information on its website and social media channels.
