To avoid delays in receiving your VA education benefits, please follow the steps listed below and submit all required documents.
STEP 1:  Apply and complete the following
  • Yuba College admissions application
  • VA education benefits through VA.gov (Veterans Online Application)Apply Here.For assistance, call the VA Education Benefits Department at: 1-888-442-4551.
  • Financial Aid (Optional)/ CA Promissory Grant (Not Optional): Don’t assume you won’t qualify – APPLY NOW using the following links!
 STEP 2:  Submit a copy of DD-214 or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE).
 STEP 3:  Take Math and English Placement Tests, if applicable.
  • Complete this step if you have not taken any Math and/or English class for college credits.

STEP 4:  Request and submit ALL sealed (un-opened) official transcripts from college/universities attended and military transcripts (JST) to:
  • Yuba College, Office of Admissions and Records, 2088 North Beale Road, Marysville, CA 95901
  • For Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy transcripts, request online through Joint Services transcripts: https://jst.doded.mil
  • For Air Force transcripts, request online through Community College of the Air Force: au.af.mil/au/ccaf

You will need to complete the Yuba College online orientation to continue the following steps:

STEP 5:  Schedule an appointment to meet with an Academic Counselor for a VA Education Plan. Schedule Counseling Appointment HERE!
  • Only courses (including prerequisites) that satisfy requirements for a program of study will be reported to the VA.
  • Courses on ed plan must be supported by the Yuba College Catalog, Assist.org report, or General Education Breadth.
STEP 6:  Register for classes online through: REGISTER
  • Please be advised that you can register at any point after your admission application and orientation have been processed. However, as indicated in Step 5, only courses (including prerequisites) that satisfy requirements for a program of study will be reported to the VA. (Veterans with a DD-214 will not be required to take PE/Elective Courses.)
STEP 7: Complete and submit Declaration of Enrollment Certification Request FORM.   Note: This form needs to be submitted every semester.
  • Summary of Requirements/Documents:
    • Schedule appointment with certifying official HERE
    • Copy of VA Certificate of Eligibility Letter
    • Copy of DD-214 or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
    • Math/English Placement Scores (if applicable)
    • Military Transcripts (JST or CCAF)
    • College/University transcripts (if applicable)
    • Certification of Enrollment Form (to be submitted every semester)

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL BEGINNING

ALL MILITARY-CONNECTED STUDENTS:
  • Student information via telephone will not be disclosed.  Student MUST show ID before personal information can be discussed.
  • FERPA form must be on file prior to any discussion with spouse, dependent or parents of students.
  • Complete Declaration of Enrollment Form (green sheet) and submit each semester.
  • 2.0 or lower GPA is reported to VA by school certifying official.
  • Immediately report courses added or dropped to avoid under/over payments.
 POST 9/11 (CHAPTER 33 OR 33-T) STUDENTS
  • Required to provide school certifying official Certificate of Eligibility Letter from VA stating student is approved to attend Yuba College
  • MHA (Military Housing Allowance) payments as follows:
    • 0 – 6 units = NO ALLOWANCE
    • 5 – 8 units = ½ Time
    • 9 – 11units = ¾ Time
    • 12 or more units = Full Time
  • Current payment rates
  • Must have at least one face-to-face course to receive full MHA payment.
  • Required to apply for CA Promise Grant every year
    • Inform certifying official immediately if denied
VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION (CHAPTER 31) STUDENTS
  • VocRehab Counselor must provide 28-1905 to school certifying official each semester
  • Student cannot be certified prior to receiving 28-1905
  • Will receive books & supplies by providing completed 28-1905 to campus bookstore
  • Not required to provide Certificate of Eligibility Letter from VA
MONTGOMERY GI BILL –ACTIVE DUTY & SELECTED RESERVES (CHAPTERS 30 & 1606) STUDENTS
  • Required to provide school certifying official Certificate of Eligibility Letter from VA stating student is approved to attend Yuba College
  • Call VA every month to report time attended
  • Current payment rates
  • No tuition & fees option
DEPENDENTS’ & SURVIVORS BENEFIT (CHAPTER 35) STUDENTS
  • Required to provide school certifying official Certificate of Eligibility Letter from VA stating student is approved to attend Yuba College
  • Receive monthly stipend (rates change annually)
  • Current payment rates
  • No tuition & fees option
